Lots more turtle rescues! Aili is taking the measurements of this little guy before he goes back to the ocean.

We organized the mangrove nursery at LOC by species and then planted 200 saplings at a site on the nearby tidal creek.

Went to a sunset yoga class at the top of a treehouse with Issy and Gray. Very relaxing experience, if I ignored the drones that were filming the class...

Last week we admitted a turtle (named Bumps) suffering from tumors. Here we watched as the vet surgically removed tumors that were covering the turtles eyes.
After one more day in recovery, Bumps is back to the ocean!! Not the most enthusiastic, but she swam off eventually. |

| Very large cabbage for lunch. |

| LOC conducts routine anti-poaching surveys along the beach to look for signs of illegal fishing and turtle poaching. We found a few old pieces of turtle shell (called scutes), but nothing that indicated recent poaching activity. |

| This section of beach is fascinating, with old coral and rock formations that have been eroded away and exposed. Lots of captivating tide pools too, filled with creatures like poisonous sea urchins, yellow striped zebra fish, sea cucumbers that release purple ink, and a dead stonefish. I could stare into these pools for days. |
 |
| Ran into someone herding their cows on the beach through a field of washed up sea grass. |
 |
| Night out to celebrate Issy's last day at LOC. The Lichthaus, built on a dock, is reliable for fantastic sunsets. |
 |
| Removed some barnacles from this rescued green turtle, then gave her shell a scrubbing for good measure. |

All better, and time to head back to the sea!

| Aili, Bre, and I have been perfecting our chapati technique. Definitely our favorite meal of the week. |

| On Sunday we took a trip to the neighboring town of Malindi. Walked through the market, strolled the beach, and got some food at this seaside restaurant. Navigating a new town on our own was a bit challenging but an awesome adventure. The hustle and bustle of Malindi made me appreciate the slow paced and comfortable nature of Watamu so much more. |

| Close out on a selfie! It might be raining buckets, but the turtles aren't waiting. |
